One of the greatest assets of any congregation is its young people. While the abundance of young people is a great blessing, it is also a great responsibility. The primary responsibility for the training of these children rests upon the parents, and we need to give parents the biblical training, the support and the encouragement they need to bring up their children in the training and instruction of the Lord.
While the primary responsibility of training children rests with the parents, we all have a responsibility in the youth of our congregations, to encourage and set the proper example before them. So important is our influence upon little children, that Jesus spoke of the blessings of welcoming a child and the harsh penalties for those who cause a little one to sin.
In Matthew 18:5-6, Jesus states: “…And whoever welcomes a little child like this in My Name welcomes Me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
It is obvious that Jesus takes a dim view of those whose conduct has a negative influence on little children, causing them to sin.
